My Heavy Heart

It is with an incredibly heavy heart that I must report that Sandy passed away on Tuesday evening while at Gilchrist/Hospice of Baltimore in Towson, Maryland. She fought every inch, every second, including the final seconds of her life. I am so proud of her.

In a cruel irony, my mother also passed away last evening in Bay Harbor, Michigan, after her fight against lung cancer for the last two and one half years. "Dotto," as her four grandchildren affectionately called her, was a non-smoker.

Losing two loved ones in less than twenty-four hours is damned tough. This has been the saddest and most difficult day of my life, but your support helps. I hope that I will be able to share more with you through this blog at some time. Right now, the girls and I are just very, very sad.

Will, Hanah, and Haley,

I am so sorry for all of you! Your loss is an incrediable one. All of you lost a mother and Will; a wife too! How does one ever handle that?

For months you have all been so strong and brave as you supported Sandy through her heart breaking journey. Everyone was in awe of Sandy's spirit and strenght as she traveled this painful journey.

Her same spirit and strength will now carry all of you through your very difficult journey.

Cancer may have taken her body but
it will NEVER touch her spirit, her strength and her love for her family. I am sure you all know a mother's love never dies and will remain with you until the end of time.
Through the years in your life both good times and bad your mom's spirit will be with you. You will intuitively feel her love and hear her words of wisdom in your thoughts

Your family, your neighbors and friends both close and casual will also carry all of you through these tough times just lean on us!

Will, your grace and dignity as a father and a husband are a beautiful tribute to the fine job your mother did raising you!

Haley and Hanah, you gave your mother so many wonderful happy years!

Our thoughts and prayers are constantly with you!

Love,
Laurie, Lindsay and Fink family

Will, Hannah & Haley,

I have never had the priveledge of meeting each of you. I am your grandmother's cousin and ofcourse knew Sandy in her youth. I have kept up with your sad, sad journey through the blog and ofcourse from Gerry. Each of you have become so real to me and I can only tell you how very sad we all are for you. You have been the strength that helped Sandy through each and every day. She had the most incredible soul and spirit. It is implanted deep in your soul as well and will never leave you.

Will, a special note of admiration comes to you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are a special person that has given every inch of himself for your family. It won't be easy but you will rise above this. Your character is so evident in each word you write.

My heart is heavy.

I have a memory of the four of you walking toward the Senator as I was driving by on York Road. You all had smiles on your faces and looked like you were having the best time enjoying each other, probably excited to be out to a movie, away from the demands of sporting events, work, and illness. It is an image I have thought of often.

I know you have a wealth of moments like that to help you get through an excruciatingly difficult time. I also know you have the love of innumerable people whose lives you have touched with your generous spirits.

Will, I know that you come by your enjoyment of life and sense of humor naturally. I still have one of the business cards your mother gave you when you were a teenager. Unfortunately, the most humorous things I remember from the card, I cannot repeat here. I am sorry I did not know her.

Mumtaz and I send you our love and wish you peace. May God bless and keep you always.

There are no words to express our sorrow. Please know that you and the girls will always be in our thoughts and prayers. We never knew your mom, but we could see her love reflected in the love that you and Sandy had for one another and for your wonderful girls. May God continue to give you courage to face each new day while remembering those that you hold closest in your hearts. Our prayers remain with you.

Will, Hannah and Haley,

We are so sorry for your loss. Sandy was a wonderful person who never let her spirit be destroyed by this disease. Stephanie as well as a lot of the Rebounders girls were very upset after practice last night. You have a two great girls that Sandy was extremely proud of. Your strength, faith and Sandy's love for all of you will get you through your sadness. Our prayers are with all of you.

Will, Hannah and Haley,

I am unable to express myself as eloquently as the others who have left messages. I just want you to know how heart broken I am for all of you. Sandy was an amazing mother, wife and friend. She will be missed so very much by everyone that she touched.

Will, I can't imagine the magnitude of your grief in having lost your mother as well. I really have no words...
My love and prayers are with all of you.

Will, Haley, and Hannah,

You are in our thoughts and prayers. Just last night I was lying with Luke and Henry talking about what a rough time you guys were having and about Sandy's terrible illness. Obviously, there are no words that can help you in this sad time.

You've all been so strong during this time.

I'm so sorry.

Dear Will, Hanah and Haley,
I am searching for the words but they are not coming easily. Our thoughts and prayers have been with you throughout this time. All of you should be so incredibly proud of Sandy as I know you are. But be proud of yourselves too. Your family is an inspiration to everyone. Without even knowing, you have touched my family's lives forever through your strength and courage. I thank you for that. God bless you all!!

To all of Sandy's family,

On behalf of the Wiley family (our sister, Ann, was a childhood friend of Sandy's through high school), we send you our deepest sympathies. What a tragic loss you've suffered. We are keeping all of you in our thoughts and prayers. Although we didn't know Sandy's husband or children, we can sense all the love in her family and are grateful she had that. Our sympathies go to Sandy's parents and siblings, Beth and Bobby, as well. We wish you all peace, comfort and strength as you go through this difficult time.

Will and girls, I have been following Sandy's fight for the past year and a half thanks to Sara Holley who sent me the blog. I just want to say how proud I feel to have known Sandy, and you Will, and how couragious you have been. I too have lost 2 family members to cancer, and share in your loss. The last time I saw Sandy was about 3 years ago at Sara's house for a Becker Girl reunion. I'm glad I went.

My thoughts are with you and your family.

Time heals all.
